Financing a Move: How “Pay Later” Options Work
Spreading the Cost of a Move Over Time
Note: Financing terms, rates, and approval depend on the specific lender and your individual credit profile. This guide explains how these programs generally work.
How it typically works
- Apply during booking. You provide basic financial information through a lending partner, usually as part of the estimate or booking process.
- Get a fast decision. Many lenders provide approval decisions within minutes, not days.
- Choose a payment plan. Terms vary by lender, but commonly range from a few months to a couple of years.
- Pay in installments. Your moving cost is paid off in fixed payments rather than one lump sum.
What financing typically covers
Most moving-specific financing covers the full cost of your move — labor, packing services, and any add-ons like storage. It’s a separate product from your mover’s own estimate; the moving company gets paid up front by the lender, and you repay the lender over time. This is a loan, not a discount
Financing spreads cost over time, but it doesn’t reduce the total cost of your move — and depending on the terms, interest may add to what you ultimately pay. It’s worth comparing the total repayment amount, not just the monthly payment. What affects approval and terms
- Credit history and score
- Income and existing debt
- The total amount being financed
- The specific lender’s underwriting criteria
Questions to ask before financing
Before you commit
- What’s the interest rate, and is it fixed or variable?
- What’s the total amount repaid, including interest?
- Are there penalties for paying it off early?
- What happens if a payment is missed?
- Is there a minimum or maximum amount that can be financed?
